Wireless Section, 1st Provincial

Teesdale Mercury 13 OCTOBER 1915 – Page 5

'Three more Barnard Castle young men have answered the country’s call and joined the Royal Engineers (wireless section).  By a communication from one of them we learn that Sappers J. Hartley Appleby, John Blenkinsop, and Kenneth Cooper, former North Eastern County School boys, and who have been employed as booking clerks on the North Eastern Railway, were amongst a contingent drafted from Chatham to Manchester, on Monday, for a course of instruction in this latest development of Edisonian science and which is likely to play an important part in the world’s future.'
