Harry was the son of John & Fanny Stubbings. He joined up from G.B. House Staindrop.In 1901 he lived with his parents, who had come from Cambridgeshire, in the cottages nearby. In 1911 Harry was living with his brother & sister-in-law, Thomas & Minnie in the same cottages.
Frances Hartley (known as Popsy), who cleaned the Church for many years was the niece of Harry Stubbings.

The Parish Magazine, September 1916 reported his death:’ Sergeant Harry Stubbings, a smart young soldier who rapidly won his stripes & was highly valued by his comrades as an efficient NCO was killed on August 3rd 1916.’
He worked as a horseman on the farm. He joined the 13th Durham Light Infantry on 10th September, 1914 & served in France. Harry was killed in action on 3rd August, 1916 aged 22 & is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial.
