Obituary:

John died at home in Barnard Castle on 2nd January 1920 "as the ultimate result of active service in the war".

His remains were interred with military honours at St Mary's Cemetery, over two hundred people attended the service.

Notes:

As a young man, Thomas had been employed by Ullathorne's as a mill hand. 

In the short time since enlisting he had seen service in Egypt, The Dardanelles and France. He spent ten days furlough at home in July 1917.
