He joined the 24^th East Yorkshire Regiment on 21^st March, 1916 & served in France where he was wounded. Edward was reported missing on 25^th September, 1916. The 1916 December Parish magazine recorded this and the December 1918 Magazine said that Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd of Cleatlam had lost two sons.
