He was reprimanded on 25th April 1915, at Lark Hill Camp, Salisbury Plain when on active service for attending church practice without taking a shave: admonished.

 

John contracted pneumonia and pleurisy whilst serving and died at North Evington Military hospital, Leicester after being transferred from a french hospital.

 

His widow Frances Hilda Hunt was awarded 15/- week pension.  The Army questioned in records if his pneumonia was due to his war service.
