Arthur was educated at Barnard Castle School and there is a memorial to him in the school chapel. He worked as an Analytical Chemist in Newcastle. He served in the 7th East Yorkshire Regiment. Arthur was killed in action near Neuvilly, France on 17th October, 1918 aged 19 & is buried in the Selridge British Cemetery at Montay.
